Another small park in Maryland. Mallows Bay is home to a scuttled fleet of WWI vessels that were sunk in shallow waters to create a wildlife refuge. Here is the road leading into the park (click on the image for a larger file):

Another photo from Maryland - this is a replica of a Bay Lighthouse that is at the Marina in Cambridge, MD. This would have been a screw-pile lighthouse, built upon piles that were literally screwed into the soft bottom of the Chesapeake Bay. Unlike this one, they would have been out in the water, typically accessible only by boat. Click on the image for a larger file.

Ferry Point is a small park on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, but provided some great photo opportunities.

Pam and I spent the last week touring some of the rural historical sites in Maryland. It was a fun trip and I have a few photos to sort through. Here is a snapshot taken yesterday of the Dahlgren chapel, located just off the Appalachian Trail in western MD. Click on the image for a larger file.

I visited some old haunts in the Allegan Forest today. This late spring… no leaves on the trees and here it is, almost May.

I’m repeating myself a little bit here - the twisted little trees were the subject of another IR post in 2008, “Trees in October.” In that case the image was taken with Kodak HIE. And one of the walnut trees was the test subject for a comparison of the IR properties of RM90 and R72 IR filters, in 2007. So I’m repeating myself a little bit here.
Folks on the PDML have been posting their 12 best shots of 2012 lately… I’m a little late and can’t say that these are my best shots, but they are my favorites for the year. To make it a baker’s dozen I added an older shot that I finally worked on enough to be happy with in 2012. Visitation #1… (April, 2012) If these photos were music they would be pop songs…. nothing wrong with that but sometimes you want to really rock out. So I started the Visitation Project in the spring of 2012. Pentax LX, Kiron 100mm macro, Neopan SS pushed to 200 and souped in D76 1+1:
Dashing Blue Dasher (August, 2012):Ever a favorite Dragonfly - the drought this year really hit the mid and late summer species, so the Blue Dashers hung around for a long time.
Finches and Thistle (August, 2012):I let a few bull thistles grow in my wildflower garden and the goldfinches loved them. Here’s one munching on the seeds. Pentax K5, A*400 f 2.8, SMC 1.7x AF converter:
