The Scorpion
A Scorpion stung me last week. A jab at the top of the foot – it started with a prick, turned red, and then a small ulcer, the size of just a dime, appeared. I was planning a trip to Chicago, where last fall I wound up hobbling around on sore feet, walking slowly through the frenetic city.
OK – so maybe it wasn’t a scorpion. They are pretty rare in Michigan. Maybe it was a spider, or a centipede, a mean pixie or nasty gnome. But in spirit it was a scorpion, and though the bite was painless in terms of walking, I can only wonder why the world chose to fold time back a year and tap me on the foot – except to say “Whoohoo – that was important last year.”
Well, I’m still clueless.

a year ago i was hobbling around k’zoo on an infected foot. leaving out excessive detail, i solved that problem, accidentally, doing routine but careless footcare.
this year the feet are ok, i’m hobblin around on aching hips and knees.
i’m thinking too that a city trip would be good. undecided between chicago, which i used to know and still love, or detroit, which has scared me silly since somewhere ’round 1950. gotta beat that fear sometime.
