I first stumbled into this mighty pair of maple trees on the fringes of the Allegan Forest in 2016… kinda lost track of them in the ensuing years but stumbled back onto that site last fall. Shot on 120 HP5+ in a Ricoh Diacord TLR, with the negative was then scanned and printed.
My photo, Old Tree In February, is in an invitational exhibit at the Three Rivers Carnegie Center For The Arts. The show is titled "Seeking Beauty" and runs from June 23 to September 13, 2023.
Stop by and see this and several other exhibits is the Carnegie's galleries!
Old Tree In February
Green leaves are beautiful indeed, And crisp snow pleases the eye, But on this hill I struggle to see The beauty that passes by.
Old tree: grace rising from ground, Branches elegant in the air. Small trees gather round, And dream of summer fair.
Your bark is rough and battered, Your roots bite the earth, Your crown is richly tattered, As you stand both blessed and cursed.
Old tree: scarred and worn, Sleeping, graceful, mass and form. Beauty veiled, branches broken, Word of creation yet unspoken.
Two of my photos have been accepted into the 2022 Maryland Federation of Art American Landscapes exhibit. The exhibit will be at the MFA Circle Gallery in Annapolis, Maryland. It runs from August 31 - September 24, 2022. A virtual gallery of the show is available here.
My two pieces are "Hidden" and "Footbridge." Both are film exposures, scanned and printed digitally. "Footbridge" was made using 35mm film in a 6x7 medium format camera... and that's fun!
